Prof. Sharoni Shafir has been with the Department of Entomology at the Robert H. Smith Faculty of Agriculture, Food, and Environment at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem since 1998. He is the Director of the B. Triwaks Bee Research Center and a former Head of the Institute of Environmental Sciences. He earned his Ph.D. from Stanford University and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the Rothenbuhler Honey Bee Research Lab at The Ohio State University. Prof. Shafir’s scientific interests focus on bee nutrition and cognition, as well as the use of bees for pollination. He served as editor for the well-established journal Animal Behaviour. He has received rector’s prizes for outstanding teaching and research, and has supervised 27 master’s, 8 Ph.D., and 10 postdoctoral students. He has also authored over 75 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
