Prof. Karnit Flug is a Vice President of Research and the William Davidson Senior Fellow for Economic Policy at the Israeli democracy Institute since June 2019, and a professor of economics at the Department of Economics in the Hebrew University since March 2019. Prof. Karnit Flug completed her five-year term as Governor of the Bank of Israel in November 2018. Prior to her appointment as Governor, Prof. Flug was the Bank of Israel’s Deputy Governor for two years following 10 years as the Director of the Research Department and Chief Economist of the Bank. Flug joined the Bank of Israel as an economist in 1984 following a 5 year period as an economist at the International Monetary Fund. She published numerous papers on macroeconomic policies, the labor market, balance of payments and social policies. Prof. Flug served on a number of public and government committees, including the Committee on Increasing Competitiveness in the Economy, the Committee for Social and Economic Change (“the Trajtenberg Committee”) and a committee on the Defense Budget. Prof. Flug received her B.A. and M.A. (cum laude) in Economics from The Hebrew University and her Ph.D. in Economics from Columbia University in 1985.
