Maya Halevy was the Executive Director of the Bloomfield Science Museum Jerusalem from 1995 till 2023. She started in 1983 and joined Prof. Peter Hillman to lead the development team that created a new concept for Israeli society – an Interactive Science Centre. She has a BA in Architecture and Town Planning from the Technion I.I.T., and an MA in Public Policy from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She also studied Museology Studies at Tel Aviv University, the Museum Management Institute, and the Noyce Leadership Institute in the United States. As the Executive Director of the Science Museum, Maya was involved and initiated programs to promote science education in Israel by connecting informal and formal science education and fostering a scientific culture within the general public of all ages and sectors within Israeli society. From 2013-2023, she was a member of the steering committee of TOP 15 (5p2), the national initiative to promote excellence in STEM education, and since 2022, she has been a member of the Education Committee of the National Council for R&D. Maya was active in international science museum organizations; she built up cooperation with science museums in Europe and North America. Under her leadership, the museum took part, initiated, and led projects with the European Commission support in Science Education and Science Engagement. In 2020, she was awarded Beacon of the Year by Ecsite, the European network of science centers and museums, and received the Mariano Gago Ecsite award for her extraordinary contribution to the field and the network. In 2022, she received the medal, “Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palemes Academiques” from the French Republic.
